This saving is offset by purchasing wind turbines

Every business should be looking to offset its carbon footprint in years to come, and as a group, we have been proactive in assessing our usage and seeing where change can be made.

The first step of any organisation's sustainability/carbon management programme is to gain an independent & thorough understanding of its current greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Carbon footprint business appraisals provide a comprehensive assessment of current status, and possibilities for future change. In 2020 the group underwent a thorough audit in order to attain Carbon Neutral status.

In order to gain this accreditation, we had to submit a number of measured items to Carbon Footprint:

  • Electricity
  • Gas
  • Travel Usage - Company Vehicles, Staff Vehicle’s, Buses, Trains, Taxi’s even Flights and Ferries.
  • Gas emissions from refrigerant and air-con units

Once the calculations were complete Carbon Footprint looked at the findings and calculated the amount of carbon dioxide equivalents the group had produced that account to greenhouse gas emissions. They also provided recommendations on working towards lowering our emissions further for the next year, such as looking at independent electricity supplies within offices, and this is going ahead with Crabtree's London Head Office in 2021. The group will also look to introduce better low-emission vehicles to our fleet of vans this year.

Of course, the next step is to offset our emissions by choosing one of a number of schemes. This year we have decided to help our friends in Thailand with purchasing Wind Turbine Generators.
